Guide
Open a garage door by hand in a power outage
With the door closed and in good order, pull the red release cord and lift the door by its handle. Check the door first.
Say the town and what the door is doing.

Check first
Is the door crooked? Is a cable loose? Did you hear a bang earlier? If so, leave it closed and call. A broken spring makes the door heavy and unsafe to raise.
If the door looks normal
Pull the cord while the door is closed. That separates the door from the opener. The springs still do the lifting.
Lift by the handle and keep your fingers away from the joints between sections. A balanced door stays where you stop it. If yours drifts down, don't drive or walk under it. Ease it closed and call.
Reconnecting afterward
Follow the instructions for your model. Many reconnect by pulling the cord toward the opener or by running the opener until the trolley catches.
Call about your door
