Garage door opener repair in Haverhill
A motor that hums without lifting may not be the motor's fault. The door itself may be too heavy, so stop pressing the button and check the list below.
Say the town and what the door is doing.

What the symptom usually points to
Humming with no lift points to a broken spring, a door out of balance or a stripped drive part.
A door that runs a short way and stops points to the travel or force settings, something in the way, or a track problem.
If neither the remote nor the wall button works, suspect the power, a lock setting on the wall control, or the opener's circuit board.
- Wall button works but the remote doesn't: try a new remote battery.
- Light blinks and the door won't close: look at the safety sensors.
What you can safely check
Check the outlet by plugging in something else, then check the breaker.
Look at the wall control. Many have a lock or vacation setting that shuts off the remotes.
Change the remote battery. Cold weather weakens small batteries.
What to leave alone
Don't open the motor housing. It holds line voltage.
Don't touch the bottom brackets or the lifting cables. They're under load even when the door is closed.
Repair or replace the opener
If a door fails the board test on the safety reverse, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says to disengage the opener until it's adjusted, repaired or replaced.
Ask what each option involves and what the contractor warrants, and whether a new unit needs a new outlet or bracket.
