New openers
Garage door opener installation in Haverhill
Before you buy a new opener, make sure the door is sound. An opener can't make up for a door that's out of balance.
Say the town and what the door is doing.

Which drive suits your garage
A belt drive is usually quieter than a chain drive, which matters if there's a bedroom above the garage. A screw drive turns a threaded rod.
A wall-mounted unit sits beside the door and turns the shaft, which keeps the ceiling clear in a low garage or one with a loft.
What has to be right first
If the springs are the weak point, get them fixed before the install.
- The door moves smoothly by hand and stays put when you let go partway.
- The springs, cables and rollers are sound.
- There's a power outlet within reach of the unit.
- The framing can take the brackets.
Test the safety reverse
Federal safety rules have required openers to reverse a closing door since the early 1990s. Test yours after the install and every month after that.
Lay a 2x4 flat on the floor in the door's path and close the door. If it doesn't reverse when it hits the board, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says to disengage the opener until it's adjusted, repaired or replaced.
Ask before the job
Does the work include the wall control, sensors and a remote? Who removes the old unit? How long is the work warranted? Is a battery backup available for the model?
