Problem
Garage door won't open
Work down this list. You can check the first four yourself. The last two are for a contractor.

Cause and what to do
| No power | Plug something else into the outlet, then check the breaker. |
|---|---|
| Remote | Try the wall button. If that works, the remote or its battery is the problem. |
| Wall control lock | Look for a lock or vacation switch on the wall control and turn it off. |
| Frozen seal | In a cold snap the bottom seal can stick to the floor. Clear snow and ice outside the door and try again. |
| Broken spring | The door feels very heavy, or you heard a bang. Don't force it. Call. |
| Cable or track | The door hangs crooked or a cable is loose. Don't force it. Call. |

If the opener runs but the door doesn't move
The door is probably too heavy for the opener, which points to a spring. Stop pressing the button, because repeated tries can strip the drive parts.
If the car is inside
You may be able to release the door from the opener with the red cord. This guide explains how. Don’t try it if a spring may be broken. Tell the contractor the car is stuck instead.
